About

Lilah Heyman was born in Connecticut in 1999. She completed her BA in Studio Art from Fairfield University. She is currently completing her MFA in Visual Arts from Western Connecticut State University.

I work from observation and pay attention to details such as color and light. I am interested in how light changes the colors that we see. In my work, I accentuate the bright, fun colors we can find when studying an object. I use fast and expressive brush strokes to highlight the personality within the paintings, bringing them to life. I am interested in how the mundane scenes of our daily lives can create intimacy between the viewer and the subject. The spaces that we live in and look at in our everyday lives reflect our own personalities and interests. These are settings that are a part of our private space, which makes them more intimate. I make mundane scenes more interesting by studying how their colors are affected by light. My study of light, color, and subject is inspired by artists such as Pierre Bonnard, Solomon Kammer, Michelle Doll, Jasper Johns, and Gustav Klimt.
